Think you need a wide-angle lens for landscape photography? In a new video, YouTuber William Patino shows you why a 100-400mm telephoto lens is great for capturing “incredible swell and wave action” on from the Australian seaside. “There’s nothing like a good mountain portrait using a telephoto lens,” says Pating. “Well, the same principle applies to the sea. We can use a telephoto to zoom in and capture a portrait of the ocean, just like we would a mountain.”

In the early 2000s, Naomi Harris—then a novice just starting out in documentary photography—went on a wild journey through the sex party scene of small-town America. The resulting 2008 book, America Swings, “is perhaps the greatest documentary project you’ve never heard of,” notes Vice. Harris recalls working on the immersive project, which started when a friend asked her to a sex club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida “I didn’t want the pictures to be sexy—that's what erotic photography is about. This is documentary photography,” she says.

SanDisk/Western Digital has broken capacity barriers before—for instance by releasing the world’s first 1TB microSD cards. Other brands have been playing catch-up, but now, proclaims DIY Photography, SanDisk has “massively crushed” the competition by unveiling the world’s first 4TB microSD card and a new 8TB full-sized SD card. “Interestingly, both the microSD and SD cards run on UHS-I speeds, which isn’t very quick these days. But if you need a lot of capacity in a tiny memory card, what are your options?” adds DIYP.

A closeup of a leopard seal’s gaping jaws, an octopus sheltering in a plastic bag and a jackfish hiding inside a jellyfish are among the photos selected as finalists in this year’s Ocean Photographer of the Year competition, notes CNN. The contest, organized by Oceanographic Magazine, aims to “shine a light on the wonder and fragility of our blue planet, and to celebrate the photographers giving it a voice.” Categories include wildlife, adventure, conservation, fine art, human connection and young photographer. Winners will be announced on September 12.
