Lithuanian photographer Tadas Kazakeviius’s project “Soon To Be Gone” draws inspiration from the works of photographers like Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, and Jack Delano, who documented changes in American society during the Great Depression while working with the Farm Security Administration. Kazakeviius’s work shows how Lithuanian society has been altered by continuous migration that has caused a reduction in the country’s population by almost one-sixth.

Over the years PPD has spotlighted Dear Dave magazine, the publication founded ed by photo educator Stephen Frailey in 2007 to highlight the work of photographers and writers. Last year Frailey also launched the Dear Dave Fellowship, which offers one recipient $1,000 and a portfolio in the magazine. You can now apply for the second annual Dear Dave Fellowship and have your work seen by a distinguished jury including Alessia Glaviano, head of PhotoVogue, Matthew Leifheit of Matte magazine, and David Campany of the International Center of Photography. You’ll be able to witness a celestial coincidence as both the Alpha Capricornids and the Southern Delta Aquariids meteor showers peak next week. Meteor showers occur when Earth's orbit intersects a comet's path, notes LiveScience: The rocky debris left behind by the comet burns up as it enters Earth's atmosphere. During the upcoming double meteor showers, Earth will cross the orbits of comet 96P/Machholz — which causes the Southern Delta Aquariids that will peak July 29 to July 30 — and comet 169P/NEAT, which births the Alpha Capricornids that will peak July 30 to July 31.
