The global digital photography market has suffered significant knocks in recent years, thanks in part to improvements in smartphone technology. But according to the Digital Photography Global Market Report 2024, the market is expected to grow from $50.71 billion in 2023 to $53.84 billion in 2024, at a compound annual growth rate of 6.2 percent. The report attributes this a “historic period” of growth to “smartphone integration, social media influence, internet connectivity, software development, and e-commerce in photography gear, notes Digital Camera World.

Meta is updating its “Made with AI” labels after widespread complaints from photographers that the company was mistakenly flagging non-AI-generated content, notes Engadget. In an update, the company said that it will change the wording to “AI info” because the current labels “weren’t always aligned with people’s expectations and didn’t always provide enough context.” Meta said in its update that “some content that included minor modifications using AI, such as retouching tools, included industry standard indicators” that triggered the “Made with AI” badge.

Photographer David Johnson’s series of long-exposure fireworks photos with a focus pull technique has gone viral around the web, and DIY Photography explains how it’s done. Key to success: “Know your lens and know the limit. Know EXACTLY when the focus will be tack-sharp on fireworks,” advises DIYP. “You don’t want to use autofocus for this. It will just “hunt in the dark." Instead, use manual focus and set the focus to just a smidgen before infinity.
