Magnum photographers and staff convened in Arles, France, recently for the agency’s Annual General Meeting and welcomed Turkish photographer Sabiha Çimen and Mexico-baed photographer Yael Martínez as full Members. In addition, Sakir Khader, a Palestinian documentary photographer based in the Netherlands, and Salih Basheer, a self-taught photographer from Sudan, were named as nominees. Both embark on the minimum four-year process of becoming full members of the cooperative.

Creative platform Picsart and Getty Images have teamed up to make a new AI image generator for Picsart’s paying subscribers to make “commercially safe” artificial intelligence images, notes PetaPixel. Picsart is offering indemnity to users of its new tool that is being built from scratch by its AI labs exclusively using Getty’s vast image library. The tool is aimed at businesses that are turning to AI for marketing material and corporate content. The model will be released at some point later this year and will be accessible through Picsart’s API services.

Photographer Kate Schultze moved to the UK from Germany in 2015, just ahead of the country’s momentous Brexit vote. Her new photo book, Mind the Gap, Luv, documents the aftermath of the referendum on young people in Brexit strongholds like Yorkshire and the West Midlands. Her images capture many young people who voted to exit the European Union but are now disillusioned with the results of Brexit, notes Dazed. “There are very few that still stand by their decision to leave, effectively people were lied to,” Schultze says.

This may not come as news for many: In a recent survey of 48 photojournalists, a large majority said that freelancing is unsustainable. The study was carried out by Rob Haggart at @aphotoeditor. “Survey respondents said that rights-grabbing contracts and low assignment rates inhibit them from accessing health care, saving for retirement and financially supporting their families. Photojournalists rely on assignments from an increasingly monopolized pool of publications, notes Haggart. PetaPixel has more.
