As an endless stream of entirely wrong and sometimes dangerous AI-generated answers from Google are going viral on social media, new research from Google researchers and several fact checking organizations have found that most image-based disinformation is now AI-generated. But the way researchers collected their data suggests that the problem is even worse than they claim, notes 404 Media. The paper measured the rise of AI-generated image-based disinformation by looking at what fact checkers at Snopes, Politifact, and other sites have claimed were image-based disinformation.

During the early years of the blog era, legendary skateboarder and artist Jerry Hsu began making snapshots and sent them to friends via his BlackBerry phone, a device synonymous with the early aughts. He went on to launch his Nazi Gold Tumblr account, filling it with his BlackBerry photos. DP Review Tuesday June 4, 2024
Showing a continued commitment to compact cameras, Leica will introduce the the D-Lux 8 in early July, notes DP Review. The camera is based around a 10.9-34mm (24-75mm equivalent) F1.7-2.8 zoom lens and offers a series of crops from a four-thirds type (17.3 x 13mm) sensor. The lens doesn't cover the entire sensor, so you can only get up to 17MP images from the 21MP chip. But the 3:2, 4:3 and 16:9 crops are designed to maintain the same diagonal angle-of-view, so they all maintain a true 24-75mm equivalent view, adds DPR.

Siena International Photo Awards Tuesday June 4, 2024
The shortlist for this year’s Drone Photo Awards has been revealed, with winners to be announced at a ceremony in Siena, Italy on September 28. The annual competition is open to professional and amateur photographers and is judged by a jury of five international professional photographers, filmmakers and curators. Among the 45 nominees: photojournalist Carol Guzy for her image “Bucha, City of Death,” an aerial shot of body bags lined up in the aftermath of the mass murder of Ukrainians by the Russian forces in 2022.
