Generative artificial intelligence is coming for streaming, notes The Hollywood Reporter. Fable Studio, an Emmy-winning San Francisco startup, has announced Showrunner, a platform the company says can write, voice and animate episodes of shows it carries. Under the initial release, users will be able to watch AI-generated series and create their own content — complete with the ability to control dialog, characters and shot types, among other controls. The endeavor marks the tech industry’s further encroachment onto Hollywood, adds THR.

Photo Basel, Switzerland’s first and only international art fair dedicated to photography-based art, gets underway on June 11 and runs through June 16. “Bare bottoms, tank fetishes and narcissistic plants are all on display at this year’s Swiss photography extravaganza,” says The Guardian, which spotlights some of the work at this year’s event. Among the highlighted series: Anna Halm Schudel’s images of “narcissistic flowers” (Galerie Monika Wertheimer, Basel) and Anton Corbijn’s portrait of William Burroughs (Galerie Anita Beckers).

Like vinyl records, analog photography has been making a comeback over the past few years, but, notes The New York Times, the new generation of film photographers is forgetting about something important: negatives. Silvio Cohen of 42nd Street Photo—one of a handful of legacy shops in New York City that still develop film—says that when customers come to get their images they “don’t pick up their negatives.” As The Time notes, “it’s the strips of film, not the prints, that are legally the artist’s original work.”

Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Monday June 10, 2024
Photographer Zhonghua Yang’s image of dim sum being prepared to celebrate lunar new year in Xiangshan, China, is the top winner of this year’s Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year contest. Yang’s photo also took first place in the Champagne Taittinger Food for Celebration category, one of the competition’s 56 categories. The tradition of making dim sum such as red bean dumplings, steamed rice cakes, and glutinous rice cake, each of which has a legacy of traditional craftsmanship, is a central part of the lunar new year festival, notes the contest.
