Art News: Iwo Jima Flag Raising Photo Sells for $103,000

Collectibles marketplace Goldin  has announced that a Type 1 photograph of photographer Joe Rosenthal’s Pulitzer Prize-winning image “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima” has sold for $103,000, notes Auction Report, making it the most expensive wartime image ever sold. Goldin says the print is one of only three known to exist and has “dual-service authentication by PSA DNA for Type 1 and for Rosenthal’s signature," adds PetaPixel. A PSA Type 1 photo is one that was developed from the original negative within two years of it being shot.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: World Ocean Day Photo Contest Winners

Dive Photo Guide has revealed the winners of its 11th annual photo competition, which coincided with World Ocean Day on June 8. This year's competition featured  five categories.“Awaken New Depths”; “Small Island Developing States”; “Big and Small Underwater Faces”; “Underwater Seascapes”; and “Above Water Seascapes.” Winners hailed from nine different countries, and all participants signed a charter of 14 commitments regarding ethics in photography, note the contest organizers.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: Profoto Expands Into Video Lighting with the Profoto L1600D

In May Profoto announced it would expand into video lighting with a new series of LED lights. Now, notes DIY Photography, the company is rolling out the Profoto L1600D, a powerful 1600W LED light targeted towards higher-end users and studios. “With it’s unique state-of-the-art technology, it offers the world’s DOPs and gaffers speed of use without limiting their creativity,” declares Profoto, describing the L1600D as a “compact all-in-one unit without ballast” featuring a “patent-pending water-cooling system" called HydroTech.   Read the full Story >>
