In March we reported  that Vital Impacts, the art organization founded by photographer Ami Vitale to support conservation groups, was looking  for an aspiring or experienced female-identifying photographer to travel with Ami on a unique photographic trip to Antarctica. Now the winner has been announced: Madison McKay, a marine biologist currently researching Bull Kelp restoration in Northern California at Moss Landing Marine Labs. Trending: Photographer Survives Bear Mauling in Wyoming

Shayne Patrick Burke, a photographer and Army veteran, was left seriously injured after being mauled by a grizzly bear on May 19 in a “surprise encounter” at Signal Mountain in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. Burke was attacked by a mother grizzly bear protecting her cub as he was trying to shoot pictures of a great grey owl, notes PetaPixel. Burke later shared photos of his injuries and recounted his run-in with the bear at Instagram. Exhibitions: The Camera Rolls of Famous Photographers

“Our camera rolls have replaced physical photo albums,” says photographer and curator Thomas Polcaster, who has put together “Camera Roll Orgy”—a group show in which ten fellow photographers transform the cell phone imagery into physical photographs. The show, on view through June 22 at The Shop (Addison Pest Control’s community space for cultural programming) at 176 Delancey St, New York City, features pictures from Ryan McGinley,  Jack Pierson, Lyle Ashton Harris, Luca Imperatori and others, including Polcaster.   Read the full Story >>
