Leitz Photographica Auction Tuesday May 14, 2024
Among the rare cameras up for sale at the 44th Leitz Photographica Auction is a rare Leitz Rifle Camera valued at $280,000. And, notes PetaPixel, that’s not even the highest-valued item. The Leitz NY Rifle features a rifle stock originally developed for wildlife photography and inspired by Attilio Gatt, an explorer, author, and documentary filmmaker who traveled extensively in Africa in the first half of the 20th century and was one of the first Europeans to photograph African wildlife. Fewer than 15 camera “rifles” were made.

Brooklyn Museum Tuesday May 14, 2024
“As The Beatles captured the hearts of millions, founding member Paul McCartney captured it all on his Pentax camera,” notes the Brooklyn Museum, which features the exhibition “Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64” through Aug. 18. Rediscovered from McCartney’s archives, over 250 images capture the frenzy of Beatlemania and the band’s personal moments from the ultimate insider’s perspective. The show originated last year at London’s National Portrait Gallery. McCartney himself made one Beatles fan happy.

Apple's iPad Pro was last updated nearly two years ago, and, notes Mashable, it was high time for an update. The superthin 2024 iPad Pro comes in two sizes—11 (weighing weighing 0.98 pounds) and and 13 inches (weighing weighing 1.28 pounds). The devices sport Apple's latest M4 chip for faster performance. “Over the years, Apple has pushed the limits of the iPad higher and higher to the point that now in 2024, we have one that is straight up more powerful that many of the laptops in Apple’s portfolio,” adds PetaPixel.

Photo London and Nikon have announced the nine shortlisted photographers in the Nikon Emerging Photographer Award 2024: Aisha Seriki, Ali Tahayori, Caroline Tompkins, Charlie Tallott, Inês d’Orey, Isabelle Young, Johnny Mae Hauser, Lise Johansson, and Sander Coers. The announcement preceded the annual photo fair, scheduled for May 16 to 19, notes Artsy. Inaugurated in 2015, the Photo London x Nikon Emerging Photographer Award aims to “to nurture and enable the career development of emerging photographic artists.”
