Trending: Flickr Celebrates 20 Years

Digital photography and the Web 2.0 came of age on Feb. 10, 2004, when Caterina Fake and Stewart Butterfield launched the Flickr photo community. Flickr took off, was acquired by Yahoo in 2005, launched an iPhone app in 2009, was acquired by SmugMug in 2018, and launched the non-profit Flickr Foundation in 2022. Now it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary wth a series of global events, including a photowalk  in San Francisco followed by a reception with a live Q&A session COO & President, Ben MacAskill. Spotlight: More 'FromTheForty'--American Photography Covers from 2015 to 2023

Astrophotography: This Year's Solar Eclipse Could Be Extra Dramatic

The total solar eclipse on April 8 may be extra special for photographers, notes The Washington Post: This year’s eclipse coincides with a period when the sun will be at its most active in two decades. That means the sun will be sending off more solar flares and eruptions from its surface — potentially making the solar eclipse much more dynamic. The eclipse’s path will start in Mexico, enter the US through Texas and travel through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.   Read the full Story >>

Sports Desk: How He Captured the Swift/Kelce Lip-Lock

After the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens to advance to this weekend’s Super Bowl, Associated Press photographer Julio Cortez set out to capture postgame images of the NFL’s most popular couple. Some quick thinking allowed Cortez to get a shot that made front pages around the world—Taylor Swift and Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce kissing. “As the Ravens kept missing opportunities to score in the second half, I started preparing myself for what the postgame would look like,” notes Cortez.   Read the full Story >>
