DJI’s newly announced DJI Mic 2, the the sequel to its first wireless microphone system, adds some creature comforts and a new transparent design, along with other features, including 32-bit float internal recording to serve as a backup to the recording on your camera. Once, there was just one place to find the most iconic moments in sports: The cover of Sports Illustrated was the most coveted real estate in sports journalism, but, notes The New York Times, the magazine’s power to set the agenda "disappeared along with its elite photographers” as its staff shrank and its frequency changed from weekly to monthly.  (There was also an AI scandal.) Legal Brief: Estate of Notorious B.I.G. Settles Lawsuit Over Chi Modu Photos

The estate of Notorious B.I.G. has reached a settlement with the widow of late hip hop photographer Chi Modu, resolving long-running litigation over merchandise bearing Modu’s famed image of the late rapper standing in front of the World Trade Center. The terms of the settlement were not made public, The estate sued in 2019, claiming Modu had illegally authorized the use of his 1996 photograph of the rapper on commercial products like skateboards and shower curtains. Though Modu was the copyright holder of the image, in 2022, a judge ruled that such merch likely violated the rapper’s likeness rights, notes Billboard.   Read the full Story >>

The film 20 Days in Mariupol, Ukrainian visual journalist Mstyslav Chernov’s harrowing chronicle of the besieged Ukrainian city and the international journalists who remained there after Russia’s invasion, has been nominated for a best documentary Oscar, notes Associated Press. (AP co-produced the film along with PBS’s Frontline series.) The film was was shot during the first three weeks of the war in Ukraine: Chernov arrived in Mariupol one hour before Russia began bombarding the port city.   Read the full Story >>
