In Focus: Two WaPo Photojournalists Look Back at their Careers

Between the two of them, John McDonnell and Bill O’Leary have a combined 85 years of shooting photographs for The Washington Post, and with their retirement at the end of 2023, they leave a legacy “rich in images of the nation’s capital as well as the country,” notes the newspaper. (Exactly how many images they published is impossible to figure; The Post’s online archives mostly represent the digital era, and McDonnell, who started in 1978, and O’Leary, who began in 1984, were shooting film long before that.) State of the Art: Content Authenticity Comes to Cameras in 2024

It’s likely that 2024 will see the major camera makers — including Nikon, Canon and Sony —  roll out content authenticity features in some capacity, likely focused on the high-end and professional-level cameras, notes PetaPixel. As of now, only Leica has released a camera that has the CAI’s digital signature system in place. Sony already announced that it would bring the technology to the upcoming a9 III as well as the Alpha 1 and a7S III. The Content Authenticity Initiative’s (CAI) C2PA digital signature system verifies a photograph’s provenance.   Read the full Story >>

Smartphone computational photography and the stunningly high ISO performance of modern mirrorless cameras have overshadowed flash photography. But, writes photographer Derrick Story at Medium, it’s time for a flash comeback. Flash, he writes, “can be a photographer’s illuminating companion.
