Tech News: Photo Gear from CES 2024, and the Weirdest Tech from CES

The annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is spotlighting coming tech—including some interesting items like AI-powered birding binoculars that identify species as you view them. That’s one of the products highlighted in a CES roundup from TechCrunch.  Meanwhile, DP Review has been reporting on photo news from the big show, including the introduction of Intel’s Thunderbolt 5—the upcoming version of the highspeed Thunderbolt connectivity standard. There's also Apple’s Vison Pro mixed reality headset and Sony’s competing "Spatial Content Creation System”—a headset with 4K OLED displays  targeted for use in 3D modeling and filmmaking.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: Close-Up Photographer of the Year Winners

Close-Up Photographer of the Year   Friday January 12, 2024

Hungarian photographer Csaba Daróczi takes the top prize in the latest edition of the Close-Up Photographer of the Year competition for his image “The Bird of the Forest”—a picture of a Eurasian nuthatch in flight, as seen from inside a hollowed-out tree stump in a forest near his home. “I discovered a hollowed out tree stump, measuring around half a metre in diameter, and put my Gopro 11 camera inside it. The results were amazing,” he notes. “After a few days, however, I figured out that an animal would improve the composition.”   Read the full Story >>

Agenda: Audubon Photography Awards 2024, Now Open for Entries

Audubon is inviting photographers and video makers to enter the 2024 Audubon Photography Awards. The contest is accepting entries through noon on February 28. Judges will award nine prizes, including the new Birds in Landscapes Prize, which will go to the top image depicting the relationship between birds and the places they need. Among the other awards: Professional Prize, Amateur Prize, Video Prize, Female Bird Prize, Plants for Birds Prize, and Youth Prize. The Grand Prize winner receives $5,000.   Read the full Story >>
