Writers, artists and actors are appealing to the U.S. government for relief — as soon as possible — from the threat that artificial intelligence poses to their livelihoods. But, notes Associated Press, technology companies “are largely happy with the status quo that has enabled them to gobble up published works to make their AI systems better at mimicking what humans do.” Meanwhile, the nation’s top copyright official tells AP she’s listening to everyone as her office weighs whether copyright reforms are needed for a new era of generative AI tools that can spit out compelling imagery, music, video and text.

Many photographers and other people have fallen victim to package theft, sometimes mere minutes after a delivery is made, notes Fstoppers. As the holiday season approaches, the Better Business Bureau has issued a warning that package theft is currently at an all-time high. “Don't leave the packages unattended for long periods of time at least. If you have a neighbor, you could always ask them to bring the item in for you. Pick up the package later,” says Lisa Schiller of the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau.

Simpson Kalisher, who liberated his lens from slick images in corporate reports and trade magazines to emerge as a discerning photojournalist who defined an art form — street photography — by capturing the panorama of urban American life in the 1950s and ’60s, died on June 13 in Delray Beach, Fla. at age 96. Through Feb. 2, 2024, New York’s Keith de Lellis Gallery presents the exhibition “Simpson Kalisher : New York Street Photography,” notes L’Oeil de la Photographie.
