Honor Roll: The ICP Infinity Awards Winners for 2024

The International Center of Photography will present its 40th annual Infinity Awards gala on April 10, 2024. This year, the event recognizes four photographers who, notes the ICP,  “have expanded the boundaries of the medium as well as a philanthropist who has annually supported the field.” The recipients are: photojournalist Lynsey Addario; Dominican-American photographer and director Renell Medrano; Iranian-born artist and filmmaker Shirin Neshat;  Portland, Oregon-based photographer Wendy Red Star; and documentary and portrait photographer Caryl S. Legal Brief: YouTuber Gets 6 Months in Federal Prison for Staging Small Plane Crash

YouTube creator Trevor Daniel Jacob has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for staging a small plane crash for social media clicks, notes CNN. Jacob admitted to intentionally crashing his plane, which was equipped with multiple cameras to capture its demise on video, in November 2021. He posted a video to YouTube titled “I Crashed My Airplane” on December 23, prosecutors said, to promote a sponsorship with a wallet company. Some viewers were suspicious of the stunt: a number of comments pointed out that Jacob was already wearing a parachute in the video.   Read the full Story >>

Exhibitions: Behind Helmut Newton's Subversive Images

Helmut Newton, who notoriously posed a model on a bed in a Paris hotel with a saddle on her back, is the focus of a new retrospective in the port city of A Coruña in Galicia, Spain. But counterintuitively, notes CNN, the exhibition is a sophisticated showcase of female empowerment as much as erotic suggestion—stockings, suspenders, jodhpurs and leathers are all worn without apology. The show “Helmut Newton – Fact & Fiction,” was curated in part by Philippe Garner, who met Newton in the 1970s as a young photo specialist at Sotheby’s.   Read the full Story >>
