State of the Art: Do Pixel 8 AI-Edited Photos Have to be Labeled as Synthetic Content on YouTube?

Google has an AI problem: The parts of the company that are charged with moderating platforms (like YouTube and Search) are going to end up colliding with the parts of Google that help people create content (like Gmail and Bard), notes The Verge. Consider the Pixel 8, whose Best Take feature uses AI to let you swap facial expressions in group photos to get “perfect” shots, and YouTube, which just rolled out the first cut of an AI-generated content policy that requires “creators to disclose when they’ve created altered or synthetic content that is realistic.”   Read the full Story >>

Spotlight: Showing the True Face of Dementia

In 2015, photographer Helen Rimell’s mother was diagnosed with early onset vascular dementia. Rimell started documenting her relationship with her mother. “I began this project as a way of preserving her, of keeping who she was alive,” Rimell tells The Washington Post. “[There’s] no hiding from the horrors and indignities, the true face of dementia.” Rimell’s project has received this year’s Bob & Diane Fund Award, an award for work that increases the understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.   Read the full Story >>
