It takes a surprising amount of creativity to make a good AI images, declares The Verge. “Promptography” is what Berlin-based artist Boris Eldagsen calls his creative process: He inputs highly specific and deliberate text prompts into generative AI programs like DALL-E or Midjourney and tweaks their outputs repeatedly to create thought-provoking photographs — or at least, what look like photographs. Spotlight: He Shoots Friends He Made on the Internet

It’s worth remembering that social media is still a way to be social, notes i-D, which spotlights photographer Saem's new book, Age, Sex, Location. The collection features portraits of people from different backgrounds and cities—a girl wearing a Brazil football jersey splayed out on a chair in Toronto, a boy with a palm tree tattoo lighting a cigarette in Los Angeles, a girl standing in a doorframe in Montreal—with whom Saem connected on the Internet.  “We just wanted to get to know each other, to see how we connected in real life,” Seam says.   Read the full Story >>

Legal Brief: Architecture Photographer Wins $6.3 Million in Copyright Case

Scott Hargis, an architectural photographer based in California, has won a “massive victory” in a copyright infringement lawsuit after years of legal battle, notes Architecture Photography Almanac. A jury ruled that a retirement home business, Pacifica Senior Living, breached copyright law after using 43 of the  photographer’s images without a licensing agreement. Hargis was awarded the maximum $150,000 per image that copyright law allows. The verdict further solidifies the importance of timely registration of photographs with the U.S. Copyright Office adds APA.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: Winners of the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant

Launched three decades ago in honor of photojournalist Ian Parry, who died on assignment for The Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989, the Ian Parry Photojournalism grant supports young and emerging photojournalists. This year Nikoletta Stoyanova, 20, from Ukraine, receives the Ian Parry photojournalism grant. Alexandra Corcode, 22, from Romania, receives the Tom Stoddart award for excellence, while Sahl Abdelrahman was highly commended.
