Passings: Artist Nancy Brooks Brody, Fierce Pussy Cofounder, Dies at 61

Nancy Brooks Brody, a founding member of the artist collective fierce pussy and an artist whose work in photography and other mediums reflected on how one’s body navigates the world and the impressions they leave behind, died on December 8 in New York, reports Art News. She was 61 years old. A posting to fierce pussy’s website said Brody had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021. The fierce pussy collective was formed in 1991 to counter the invisibility of women, lesbians in particular, with regards to HIV/AIDS and AIDS activism.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: Fiery Image Wins Nature's Best Photo Contest

Spanish photographer Luis Vilariño is the overall winner of the 2023 Nature’s Best Photography contest for his image "The Volcano in the Clouds”—a fiery shot of Iceland's Geldigadalir volcano erupting in 2021. “While a squall covered Reykjanes peninsula, I ascended to the base of Geldigadalir,” notes Vilariño. “Magma rising from the mantle formed gigantic bubbles 30 to 50 feet in diameter, which burst when they reached the surface.
