Tech News: The Phase One P5 is a 128-Megapixel Medium Format Camera Built for Drones

In collaboration with Quantum Systems and Trimble, Phase One has announced a state-of-the-art 128-megapixel camera purpose-built for survey-grade applications, notes PetaPixel. The new Phase One P5 is designed for mini drone — it weighs less than 700 grams, which is very lightweight for a medium-format camera. “Accurate surveys play a critical role in construction projects and architectural design, whether it’s during the construction phase or in the post-completion monitoring stage,” notes Phase One.   Read the full Story >>

Apple stunned the world when it came out in support of California’s new right-to-repair law. But software locks and other obstacles seem to signal that the fight is far from over, notes The Verge. In September, Apple rolled out a new iPhone that appears impossible to fully repair without the manufacturer’s blessing — and without paying Apple money. Repair guide site iFixit.com discovered that the iPhone 15 has software locks that cause warning messages to pop up or functionality to be lost if parts are replaced with new ones that weren’t purchased directly from Apple.   Read the full Story >>

Exhibitions: The ICP at 50

The International Center of Photography in New York celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, starting with the exhibition “ICP at 50” (Jan 26, 2024 to  May 6, 2024). The exhibition is a “thematic exploration of the many photographic processes that comprise the medium’s history,” notes ICP. It will include works from ICP’s holdings, from the 19th century to the present, featuring photographs by well-known artists such as Robert Capa, Weegee, Francesco Scavullo, and Gerda Taro.   Read the full Story >>
