Photographer Soham Bhattacharyya is the overall winner of this year's Mangrove Photography Awards for his image of an endangered royal Bengal tigress in the Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve, India. “The solitary figure of the tiger, standing amidst the lush green mangrove forest vegetation, poignantly underscores the isolation it must endure in an ever-shrinking habitat," said a judge. Artists suing artificial intelligence art generators have hit a stumbling block in a first-of-its-kind lawsuit over the uncompensated and unauthorized use of billions of images downloaded from the internet to train AI systems, notes The Hollywood Reporter. U.S. District Court Judge William H. Orrick failed to find evidence of direct infringements by the AI image companies and mostly granted the defendants’ motion to dismiss the case, adds PetaPixel. Among the issues: Whether AI systems actually contain copies of copyrighted images that were used to create infringing works. Reuters has more.
