Art News: Graciela Iturbide Wins EUR120,000 French Photo Prize

Photographer Graciela Iturbide has received the Photography Prize of the Académie des beaux-arts – William Klein, a €120,000 award that goes to a photographer for his/her entire career and his/her commitment to the medium, notes L’Oeil de la Photographie. Awarded every two years, the prize was established in 2019 by the Academy in tribute to the work of William Klein (1926-2022), with the support of the Chengdu Contemporary Image Museum. State of the Art: VP Kamala Harris Announces AI Safety Institute

Just days after President Joe Biden unveiled a sweeping executive order retasking the federal government with regards to AI development, Vice President Kamala Harris announced a half dozen more machine learning initiatives that the administration is undertaking. Among them is the establishment of the U.S. AI Safety Institute, which, noted Harris, “will work to create guidelines, standards and best practices for evaluating and mitigating the full spectrum of risks” of AI.
