Natural Landscape Photography Awards Tuesday November 21, 2023
Canadian landscape photographer Blake Randall has won the third annual Natural Landscape Photography Awards with a stunning portfolio of images. The competition was started to “promote the very best landscape photography by digital and film photographers who value realism and authenticity in their work,” with rules set up to prevent deceptive editing techniques, notes The Atlantic. This year’s contest received 11,176 photographs from 1,023 photographers in 54 different countries.

A federal judge has rejected efforts by major social media companies to dismiss nationwide litigation accusing them of illegally enticing and then addicting millions of children to their platforms. The decision by U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers covers hundreds of lawsuits filed on behalf of individual children who allegedly suffered negative physical, mental and emotional health effects from social media use including anxiety, depression, and occasionally suicide. The litigation seeks, among other remedies, damages and a halt to the defendants' alleged wrongful practices, notes Reuters.

Shortly after OpenAI fired its CEO Sam Altman in a shocking move last week, Microsoft hired him, alongside OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, to lead the company's new, "advanced research team.” Microsoft is an investor and partner with OpenAI; Microsoft also uses OpenAI's tech in its search engine, notes Mashable. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, said Altman would be chief executive of the new research lab, “setting a new pace for innovation,” in an apparent contrast at the OpenAI board’s desire for caution in developing A.I. technology, noted The New York Times.
