With more than 75 million users, DeviantArt is one of the latest—and largest—online spaces to grapple with AI-generated images: In June, the site announced that it would require users to disclose whether works they submitted were created using AI tools. “The threat of misinformation around news events or elections appears obvious,” notes Art News. “But another debate around AI labeling touches on the core of how we define art, who gets to make it, and who can profit from it. That conversation has enraged creators on both sides.”

Thirteen years ago, after reporting on Greenland’s shrinking glaciers for The Climate Group, a non-profit organization working to address climate change, Magnum photographer Ian Berry began to think about a long-term project called “Water—Source of Life.” Since then, Berry has traveled the globe from Bangladesh to New Zealand to document the inextricable links between landscape, life and water. The result is the new book Water, from GOST. Berry calls the work both a celebration of water and a cautionary tale for humans, notes Magnum.

Aiming to fill the void left by the defunct PhotoPlus Expo — the big photo show that used to take place annually in New York City — B&H Photo Video will present the inaugural Bild Expo at the Javits Center in New York City on September 6 and 7. The PhotoPlus trade show rebranded as Create NYC following two straight cancellations. However, Create NYC, originally scheduled for 2022, was delayed until this year. There is still no mention of the show on the Create NYC website, which still has the PhotoPlus Expo web address, notes PetaPixel.
