Pat Hamilton, a photojournalist who specialized in conflict zones, from Central America to Somalia to the Persian Gulf region, died Aug. 13 at his home in San Antonio, reports The Washington Post. He was 74. Hamilton began his photojournalism career in the early 1970s after three years of combat as a Marine Corps veteran in Vietnam. He was on the staff of the San Antonio Express-News in 1976 when, during that election year, he captured President Ford campaigning near the Alamo and biting into a tamale with the corn husk still on. The photo was regarded as a factor in Ford’s losing Texas to Democrat Jimmy Carter.

Several media organizations have called for rules protecting copyright in data used to train generative AI models, reports The Verge. The open letter urged lawmakers around the globe to consider regulations that require transparency into training datasets and consent of rights holders before using data for training. The letter was signed by Agence France-Presse, the European Pressphoto Agency, the European Publishers’ Council, Gannett, Getty Images, the National Press Photographers Association, the National Writers Union, News Media Alliance, The Associated Press, and The Authors Guild.

Instagram is adding music to photo carousels, so now, notes Mashable, you can set the mood when posting your thirst traps. The new feature was officially launched on by singer Olivia Rodrigo, who used it to promote her new single "bad idea right?" from her upcoming album “Guts.” If Instagram's music in carousels feature looks a bit familiar, that's probably because of TikTok, adds Mashable: The video-sharing app has allowed users to add music to photo carousels since it first introduced slideshow mode in September last year.
