Art and architecture biennales bring a rush of openings to Venice, Italy, but then crowds recede. In recent years, however, there have been a number of more permanent cultural institutions rising in the city, notes Apollo magazine, which spotlights Le Stanze della Fotografia, a new exhibition space dedicated to photography on the island of San Giorgio. “Venice was missing a fixed place with the capacity to develop a continual activity in relation to photography,’ observes Denis Curti, Le Stanze’s artistic director.

Astronomy Photographer of the Year Monday July 3, 2023
The Astronomy Photographer of the Year has announced its heavenly 2023 shortlist—among the images included is Letian Wang’s photo of China’s Tiangong space station transiting the sun. Organized by the Royal Observatory Greenwich, this year’s contest, the 15th, drew over 4,000 entries from 64 countries. The competition’s nine categories winners and overall winner will be on Thursday, September 14 and will go on view at the National Maritime Museum in London on September 14.

A new regulation being considered by the British government would require images and videos created with artificial intelligence to be labeled. Regulations aimed at “taming AI” are being looked at by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, reports The Times of London, adding that Sunak envisions laws that might form a template for legislation that could be implemented across the world. The U.K. government has also begun work on a British AI safety agency that will assess the most powerful models to prevent them deviating from their intended goals, notes PetaPixel.
