Director Wes Anderson, whose new film Asteroid Cityis now out, does not appreciate TikTok’s “Wes Anderson Challenge”—videos echoing Anderson’s distinctive symmetrical compositions, intense color coordination, and diorama-like depth of field. “If somebody sends me something like that I’ll immediately erase it and say, ‘Please, sorry, do not send me things of people doing me.’ Because I do not want to look at it, thinking, ‘Is that what I do? Glenalvin Goodridge is largely forgotten today. But, notes Smithsonian magazine, he was one of the most important African American photographers of the 19th century. Along with James P. Ball and Augustus Washington, Goodridge helped define this emerging art. Their work is represented in the Smithsonian American Art Museum—which, after major acquisitions in 2021 and 2023, now boasts the largest collection of daguerreotypes and photographic jewelry from the earliest known African American photographers.

Fred Stewart is battling the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation over usage of imagery created by his great-great uncle, the acclaimed photographer Mike Disfarmer. Stewart, the administrator of Disfarmer’s estate, wants to make high-resolution copies of 3,000 glass-plate negatives and use them "for monetary gain,” said the foundation’s lawyer in a recent court filing. "The trouble is that title to the copyrights in Mr. Disfarmer's works is, in fact, disputed,” he added. The Arkansas Democrat Gazette has the story.
