Capture the Atlas has announced the 25 winners of its annual Milky Way Photographer of the Year. The images, selected from some 3,000 entries, were taken in 16 countries, from Australia and New Zealand to Madagascar, Chile, Argentina, Namibia, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Spain, Slovenia, Japan, Iran, Peru, Yemen, Indonesia and the Unites States. "I think we have the most spectacular selection we have ever made with unique images from around the world,” says Capture the Atlas founder Dan Zafra at DIY Photography.

YouTube Stories is disappearing, for good. As of June 26, users will no longer be able to post Stories, and existing posts will expire after seven days, notes The Verge. YouTube explained that it is dropping YouTube Stories to focus on more popular recent features including YouTube Shorts and Community posts, adds Mashable. The YouTube Stories feature was introduced in 2017 under the name Reels and was available to users with over 10,000 subscribers. Similar to Instagram (which in turn lifted the concept from Snapchat), YouTube Stories disappeared after a set amount of time.

In the spring of 1976, photographer Mary Ellen Mark and her friend Karen Folger Jacobs, a writer and mental health professional, embarked on a trip to a women’s mental institution: Oregon State Hospital’s Ward 81. There, notes AnOther, they stayed for a month, photographing and interviewing the women confined within its walls. The result was the landmark 1979 book Ward 81. Now Steidl is releasing Ward 81: Voices, an expanded edition of that includes previously unpublished photographs and interview excerpts.

The Associated Press has announced the launch of an artificial intelligence-powered search experience on AP Newsroom, the global news agency’s single platform for multimedia content.The platform also now offers e-commerce capabilities, in addition to serving AP’s member news organizations and customers, notes Editor & Publisher. AI-powered search offers a new way to find photos and videos: Rather than relying on metadata, the search tool understands descriptive language and produces results based on descriptions from users, adds PetaPixel.
