Spotlight: The English National Ballet, Shot wth a Drone

PPD has previously featured photography Brad Walls work, including his series on synchronized swimmers shot with a drone. His latest project features a different group of performers—dancers with the English National Ballet. The work was done at the newly designed English National Ballet studio in Canning Town, near London. Walls says his aim was to “disrupt traditional ballet photography,” shifting its focus from individual dancers to the teamwork of an entire group by shooting them from overhead.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: Sony FX-3 Firmware Update Adds Cinema Line Features

Sony has announced new firmware updates for both the Sony FX3 and Sony FX30 cinema cameras that bring together what Sony describes as "unified operability and common workflow to the Cinema Line.” The update allows both cameras to shoot true 24.00 fps in 4K DCI resolution using a new video format, XAVC S-I DCI 4K (17:9). Thus, they seamlessly slot into high-end workflows using Sony Venice cameras, notes DIY Photography. Both cameras also have 1.3x and 2.0x anamorphic desqueeze options. Exhibitions: The Roles of Photography During the Nazi Era

First shown at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem, and now on view a Berlin’s Museum of Photography, the exhibition "Flashes of Memory: Photography During the Holocaust" provides three different perspectives: through photographs taken by the Nazis, photos taken by Jewish photographers, and pictures taken by the soldiers of the forces that liberated Germany from the Nazis. Call for Applications: Women Photograph 2023 Project Grants

You can apply now for grants from Women Photography that aim to support photography projects — either new or in-progress — from visual journalists working in a documentary capacity. Five $5,000 grants are available, at least one of which will be earmarked for a nonbinary or transgender photographer. The $10,000 Women Photograph + Leica Grant is open to photographers who can demonstrate a long-term commitment to their ongoing project. Additional consideration will be given to applicants who are engaged with the communities they cover beyond traditional journalistic documentation.   Read the full Story >>
