Controversy: Wedding Photographer's "Safety Shot" Technique Divides Internet

Photographer Adam Lowndes recently shared a TikTok video explaining how he always asks boyfriends and girlfriends to step out of the group portraits he shoots at weddings, calling the technique a “safety shot.” Lowndes explained that he starts with a large group of extended family, then gradually removes people from the grouping in order to quickly and efficiently capture all the family shots on the wedding day, notes Rangefinder. Several commenters said they wished they had done that at their weddings, while others regretted being in their ex’s family photos. Tech News: Sony Launches New Creators' App

Sony’s newly launched Creators’ App allows you to connect your smartphone with your with your Sony Alpha mirrorless camera to access a number of features. The app replaces the company’s Imaging Edge app, notes Videomaker. With the Creators’ App, you can access Creators’ Cloud and upload your images and videos to the cloud. You can also access other apps from Sony, such as Master Cut, which uses cloud AI technology to assist with video editing, and check your camera’s status from your smartphone.   Read the full Story >>

Art News: Carrie Mae Weems Wins Hasselblad Photography Prize

Carrie Mae Weems, one of the most influential artists working today, has added another accolade to her storied resume, notes Art News: The Hasselblad Foundation has announced that Weems is the winner of its 2023 Hasselblad Award, making her the first African American woman to claim the honor. The annual award acknowledges “significant achievement” by a living photographer and is endowed with SEK 2,000,000 (about $187,000).
