California’s severe winter storms may yield a colorful explosion this spring. Experts are saying that 2023 will see a super bloom of wildflowers, including, of course, California poppies. “The last time California had a super bloom was in 2019, and it appeared that everyone went a little bit crazy over it,” notes DIY Photography. Is a super bloom certain? In nature, very little is. There needs to be springtime sun to gently warm the soil and no wind to make sure the soil doesn’t dry out too much, adds DIYP.

Benjamin Rasmussen spent the first 18 years of his life in the remote southern islands of the Philippines before uprooting to the U.S. for college. His new monograph, The Good Citizen, is the culmination of eight years spent questioning his own identity and the privilege that accompanied it, notes AnOther. Rasmussen traveled to 43 states and was introduced to over 500 people as he “investigated the impact of the country’s complex history on contemporary society,” notes the book’s publisher, GOST.

All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, a documentary about photographer Nan Goldin and her activism around the Sackler family’s involvement in the U.S. opioid crisis, has received an Oscar nomination in the Best Documentary category, notes Art News. Directed by Laura Poitras, the film, which recounts Goldin’s evolution as a person and an artist, received the Golden Lion award at the Venice International Film Festival in September, becoming one of the few documentaries ever to have received the prize. And now it’s a broadway play, notes The New York Times in a story featuring photos by Alec Soth. The play stars Nathan Lane and Zoë Wanamaker as Sultan’s parents and features features Danny Burstein as Sultan.
