Earth will soon be visited by a newly discovered comet that may be bright enough to be spotted with the naked eye. The comet, named C/2022 E3 (ZTF), will make its closest approach to the sun on Jan. 12, and will then whip past Earth, making its closest passage between Feb. 1 and Feb. 2, notes Space.com. While this comet will not be as bright as comet NEOWISE, it should provide quite a spectacle for photographers. Your next chance to photograph it will be in roughly 1,000 years, adds Gizmodo.

To catch a man suspected of plotting to kill two business associates, federal agents in Los Angeles did what Hollywood does best, staging an elaborate scene for the camera. LA-based real estate developer Arthur Aslanian had allegedly hired a hitman to assassinate a lawyer and a banker to whom he owed over $3 million. The feds produced a fake photograph of a murder scene—featuring the lifeless body of a well-dressed, gray-haired man splayed out on a patch of grass with an apparent bullet wound by his right ear and blood-stained white shirt—as a ruse to catch Aslanian.

Sometimes you’re lucky enough to see the complete arc of a rainbow stretching over a landscape. But that’s only half of what Scottish photographer Nick Sidle was able to capture, thanks to his drone. Sidle was up at dawn taking photos in the Scottish Highlands when he saw a rainbow. “From the ground, this rainbow although appearing closer than average, only looked like the usual half-circle. Watching the feed from the drone as it climbed steadily, the lower half was revealed,” he notes.
