Getty Images is suing Stability AI, the company behind popular AI art tool Stable Diffusion, alleging the tech company committed copyright infringement by scraping millions of images from its site without proper licensing. “We don’t believe this specific deployment of Stability’s commercial offering is covered by fair dealing in the UK or fair use in the US,” Getty CEO Craig Peters tells The Verge. London-based Stability AI announced it had raised $101 million in funding for open-source AI tech in October and released version 2.1 of its Stable Diffusion tool in December, adds CNN.

The National Endowment for the Arts has announced $28.1 million in grants to support 204 arts projects across the country, from a research center at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn to the development of digital tours of an exhibition highlighting Jewish founders of the film industry at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The International Center of Photography in New York receives funding for a project about the life of photographer Cornell Capa and the ICP, which he founded in 1974, notes The New York Times.

“Kin Coedel’s photo series Dyal Thak has a peaceful beauty that is so rare to encounter, and so special when one does,” declares It’s Nice That. Shot in Tibet, the series captures the essence of daily life—people walking the mountainous terrain, families in tight embrace, a group in the midst of a ritual celebration. The series began during the pandemic in 2021, when Coedel, then based in China, traveled to Tibet for a work opportunity and “completely fell in love with the place.” His goal was to craft an accurate sense of place.
