The largest photography library in Africa has opened in Ghana’s capital, Accra, showcasing the work of the continent and diaspora’s forgotten, established and emerging talent, notes The Guardian. Founded by Ghanaian photographer and filmmaker Paul Ninson, the Dikan Center houses more than 30,000 books he has collected. A photo studio and classrooms provide space for workshops, while an exhibition space will host regular shows, the first of which features work by by the late Ghanaian documentary photographer Emmanuel Bobbie (also known as Bob Pixel).

Nature Photographer of the Year Tuesday December 27, 2022
Photographer Dmitry Kokh is the top winner of the 2022 Nature Photographer of the Year award for his images of polar bears in an abandoned Soviet village in the Arctic. In 2021, Kokh, who notes that he is not a full-time photography, traveled to the arctic aboard a ship. It sheltered at a small island, Kolyuchin, where the USSR once operated a polar weather station. There he found a deserted house occupied by 20 polar bears. “The stormy wind, rain, and neglected buildings on the rocky shores all made everything appear super surreal,” he notes.

Midjourney founder David Holz has admitted that his company did not receive consent for the hundreds of millions of images used to train its AI image generator, outraging photographers and artists, notes PetaPixel. Twitter users have been sharing an interview that Holz did with Forbes in September. When asked if he’d sought consent from living artists whose work was used, Holtz said, “No. There isn’t really a way to get a hundred million images and know where they’re coming from.”
