Exhibitions: Jay Blakesberg's History of Rock

The first solo museum retrospective of work by Jay Blakesberg, a renowned chronicler of rock and roll, is on view at the Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ through Feb. 5. Blakesberg began photographing his favorite bands in the late 1970s. His archive eventually included pictures of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and, perhaps most notably, the Grateful Dead, sparking a 44-year photography career. The exhibition includes images of Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Radiohead and more.   Read the full Story >>

State of the Art: Meta Sees Sharp Rise in AI-Generated Fake Profile Photos

Facebook parent Meta is seeing a "rapid rise" in fake profile photos generated by artificial intelligence, reports CBS News. The finding comes as technology like "generative adversarial networks" (GAN) has become widely available to the public. These are "basically photos of people who do not exist," said Ben Nimmo, Global Threat Intelligence lead at Meta. The increased use of GAN-generated profile pictures suggests that threat actors may see it as a way to make their fake accounts look more authentic and original, noted Meta.   Read the full Story >>

Legal Brief: Paris Hilton Sued for Editing Pics of Herself Without Permission

Paris Hilton is facing a copyright infringement lawsuit for cropping, editing, and posting photos of herself on Instagram without the photographer’s permission, notes PetaPixel. In a lawsuit filed on November 30, photographer Claudia Occhipinti says she was hired in 2019 to shoot photographs of Hilton that would be used to promote her Electrify perfume. The photographer also says she is the sole author and owner of the images and that Hilton created unauthorized derivative works of the photographs by cropping, resizing, and adjusting them in ways that impact the quality of Occhipinti’s work.   Read the full Story >>
