State of the Art: Stability AI Raises $101 Million, Gets $1 Billion Valuation

Stability AI, the company behind popular text-to-image AI program Stable Diffusion, has raised new funding that values the company at around $1 billion, reports The Verge. It’s a significant validation of the company’s approach to AI development, which, in contrast to companies like OpenAI and Google, focuses on open-source models that anyone can use without oversight. Stability AI said it raised $101 million in a round led by Coatue, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and O’Shaughnessy Ventures, and that it will use the money to “accelerate the development of open AI models" for image, language, audio, video, 3D, and more.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: Winners of $106K Saudi Grant Are Named

Saudi Arabia’s Visual Arts Commission has announced the winners of the inaugural $106,000 Kingdom Photography Professional Grant program and Kingdom Photography Discovery Competition. (The grants are designed to build a professional photographic archive of the Saudi region. This year’s competition focused on the Al Wajh area along the Red Sea coast.) Stockholm-based photographer and scuba diver Alex Dawson, Australian photographer Nyree Cox, and Buenos Aires-based photographer Andrea Alkalay are the three winners, notes The Nation News.   Read the full Story >>
