More Australians than ever before are dying after accidentally falling from cliffs, with selfies possibly to blame, notes the Daily Mail. Indeed, according to a recent study, Australia has reached the highest number of selfie-related deaths in the past decade, adds DIY Photography. The Australian Bureau of Statistics says that 3,747 people died from accidental falls in 2021, capping a rising trend over the past ten years. “Deaths due to falls are the most common external cause of death,” ABS writes, adding that “falls were the 12th leading cause of death for females.”

Judges for the 77th College Photographer of the Year competition viewed nearly 10,000 images submitted by 570 students from a record-setting 127 colleges and universities in 47 countries. “We increased the numbers of countries by 50 percent in two years and the number of schools and students,” Jackie Bell, director of CPOY said. “We’re on every continent except Antarctica.” Vincent Alban of the Rochester Institute of Technology takes the College Photographer of the Year.
