Photographers Clare Perry and Viktor Koen will be presenting their work at the next Projections event, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. You can join on Zoom. Perry is currently a freelance photographer and real estate-interior photographer. Koen serves on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts; his images have been seen in The NY Times, Wall Street Journal and Nature magazine. Projections is a once-a-month event (sometimes more) that showcases talented photographers of various disciplines from around the world. Marie D. De Jesús, the president of the National Press Photographers Association, has condemned violence by Puerto Rico Police Bureau officers directed at journalists in San Juan on the night of Aug. 25, noting that the “work of visual journalists is critical to our understanding of the electricity crisis in Puerto Rico” and the protests that have erupted because of it. “As president of NPPA, a photojournalist and as a Puerto Rican, I’m outraged to see videos of the  Puerto Rico Police Bureau assaulting photojournalists exercising their constitutional right to document events and inform citizens,” she writes.   Read the full Story >>

Spotlight: A Moon Masterpiece

Everybody is talking about the new James Webb telescope photo of Jupiter, but Science Alert is astonished by a new photo of the moon taken by space photography enthusiast Andrew McCarthy — featured many times at PPD — in collaboration with planetary scientist Connor Matherne, The result of roughly two years of work and over 200,000 frames, the image, declares SA, is a moon masterpiece.
