The saga of the National Geographic Fine Art Galleries has been ongoing for years and started when PetaPixel contributor Ken Bower published an opinion piece in which he expressed concern over the Galleries’ commission rate in July of 2018. “I was surprised to learn the photographer only gets 5% of the total sale price. For decades, the Santa Marta sabrewing has been a bird-watching holy grail—the quintessential “lost bird,” notes My Modern Met. (The species is one of the top 10 most sought-after birds on the “Search for Lost Birds” quest by conservation organization re:wild, adds MMM.) Discovered in 1946 in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains of Colombia, the iridescent bird was last seen in 2010.
