Tech News: Sony's FR7 is the World's First Full-Frame ILC Pan-Tilt-Zoom Camera

The latest addition to Sony’s Cinema line, the FR7, is the world's first pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera to combine a full-frame image sensor, an interchangeable lens design, and remote shooting functionality, notes DP Review. The FR7 promises precise control over its movement: Pan and tilt speed is continuously variable from 0.02 to 60 degrees per second and supports a wide range of stable, smooth motion. The pan angle range is from +/- 170 degrees and the tilt angle range is from -30 to 195 degrees. The robotic cine cam can also memorize up to 100 camera position presets.   Read the full Story >>

Passings: Melvin Sokolsky, Surrealist Fashion Photographer, Dies at 88

Photographer Melvin Sokolsky, who pushed boundaries by creating fantastical tableaux for fashion magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, died on Aug. 29 at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif., reports The New York Times. He was 88. Sokolsky, an untrained photographer who grew up in a tenement on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, created fashion images that often seemed to defy both gravity and logic—perhaps most famously in his “bubble” series, in which he placed a model in what appeared to be a giant soap bubble floating around Paris. Raise a glass of red rum for the newly released fall/winter 2022 ad campaign from Gucci, in which fame photo duo Mert and Marcus reimagine scenes from the films of Stanley Kubrick—including, of course, The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Barry Lyndon and A Clockwork Orange. “Since [Stanley Kubrick] was a diviner of vision, his works are as recognizable as the Sistine Chapel, The Virgin of the Rocks or The Simpsons,” says Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele.
