Photographer David Gray’s shot of tennis play Naomi Osaka rescuing a butterfly at the 2021 Australian Open is the top winner of this year’s World Sports Photography Awards. Gray captured the moment during which play was interrupted by the arrival of the wayward butterfly at Osaka’s feet. “Sports Photography captures special moments and tells unique stories, but most of all it draws you in and reveals the unexpected,” notes World Sports Photography Awards co-founder Simon Burton. Alongside its presentation materials for its Q2 2022 financial results, Canon included a summary of its Q&A session that addresses various questions from stakeholders. In response to one inquiry, the company stated that “the camera market has largely bottomed out at its current size.” It added that the professional and advanced amateur segment was expected to expand further, with products that will become more highly developed. In other words, noted DP Review, entry-level cameras will be taking a backseat to higher-end models, which also have the added benefit of typically providing higher profit margins. FOTOFEST Friday August 12, 2022
Houston-based arts organization FotoFest has announced the artists that will be included in its 2022 Biennial art exhibition, “If I Had a Hammer” (September 24 through November 6). The title is a reference to a 1949 folk song by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays, which later became synonymous with the Civil Rights movement. The show will explore how images create, inform, and respond to social movements and political ideologies.
