Petra Collins says she “never learned the basics” of photography, leaving her to explore the medium as her own teacher — a journey, notes The Hollywood Reporter, that blossomed into a celebrated career. “When I found alternative ways of learning, it really helped with my practice,” says Collins, who is now herself becoming an instructor with the educational streaming platform MasterClass. One of the rarest Leica cameras in the world — Leica inventor Oscar Barnack’s personal 1923 Leica 0-Series No. 105—has sold for a record $15 million at the 35th Leitz Photographica Auction in Vienna, notes DIY Photography. The camera was expected to bring just $3 million. As we noted previously, the camera one of only 23 cameras that were produced to test the market, two years before Leica even officially hit the shelves. Barnack’s Leica broke the previous record set by the same camera model: In 2018, another Leica 0-series from 1923 was sold for $2.51 million. Read the full Story >>
Bronx Documentary Center Monday June 20, 2022
More than a dozen veteran conflict photographers will show their work in the benefit exhibition “URGENCY! Ukraine,” opening at the Bronx Documentary Center on June 22 at 6 pm. Curated by Ukrainian-American photographer Sasha Maslov, New York Times photo editor Cecilia Bohan and BDC Director Michael Kamber, the exhibition will feature more than 50 photos showing the devastating conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Tamron has announced what it is calling the world’s first wide-range 4.1x standard zoom lens for Fujifilm X-mount. The new 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD — an X-mount version of the company’s 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD released in January for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras — features an f/2.8 constant aperture across the entire zoom ratio.
