Their paths crossed at New York City’s Hauser & Wirth gallery, where a collection of Sherman’s early work recently opened. There they two women quickly forged a connection and had a chat. Photographers Rania Matar, Rosem Morton and September Bottoms are the recipients of the third annual Leica Women Foto Project Awards, produced with the aim of expanding diverse representation in photography. Each recipient will receive $10,000, a Leica SL2-S camera and lens, and an exhibition at Fotografiska in New York. Retired Associated Press photographer Nick Ut met Wednesday with Pope Francis and presented him with a copy of his Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph of a young Vietnamese girl running naked down the road after a napalm attack. Ut and Kim Phuc Phan Thi, whose terror he captured on June 8, 1972 during the Vietnam War, greeted Francis at the end of his general audience in St. Peter’s Square. Ut and Kim Phuc were in Italy to open an exhibit of his photographs in Milan ahead of the anniversary of his “Napalm Girl” photograph.
