Agenda: Judges Announced for 2022 Eugene Smith Grant

The W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund has announced the judges for its 2022 annual grants including the W. Eugene Smith grant, Howard Chapnick grant, and W. Eugene Smith Student grant. This year’s judges include photojournalist Eli Reed; Naveen Kishore, founder of Seagull Books; photographer and curator Akinbode Akinbiyi; NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati, co-founder Photo Kathmandu; Whitney Matewe, photo editor at TIME; and Emmeline Yong, co-founder and director of Objectifs. Smith Fund board of trustees members Michelle Dunn Marsh; John Fleetwood; and Noelle Flores Théard will serve as jury chairs. Trending: Sen. Josh Hawley Bill Would Limit Copyright to 56 Years, and It Would Be Retroactive

Republican Senator Josh Hawley has introduced legislation that limits copyright protection to 56 years. As written, the law would retroactively apply to existing copyrights. The bill, notes The Hollywood Reporter and other news site, is meant to punish Disney for the company's opposition to Florida's Parental Rights in Education law, more commonly known as the "Don't Say Gay" law. Passings: Former Wired Photo Director Zana Lynn Woods Dies at 58

Zana Lynn Woods, who as photography director of Wired magazine for 13 years advocated for an inclusive and diverse environment at the magazine and fought for others in the industry, died in Munich on March 8. She was 58, notes the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Because of her stellar eye, expert editing, and achievements in the photography field, Woods won the Lucie Award for Picture Editor of the Year in 2012. She also served as a judge for the American Photography competition, notes AI-AP’s Mark Heflin.
