Passings: Spanish Photographer Ouka Leele, Star of the Movida Madrilena, Dies at 64

Spanish photographer, artist and poet Ouka Leele, one of the greatest and brightest talents of the Movida Madrileña cultural explosion that followed the end of the Francisco Franco dictatorship, died on May 24 at age of 64, reports The Guardian. Leele began drawing, painting and devouring history of art books at an early age. Canon Explorer of Light Vanessa Joy has been photographing weddings for more than 20 years and, notes Pop Photo, she prides herself on making her client’s big day a fun and stress-free experience. She also knows how to roll with changes in the industry. “When I first started, wedding albums were, I don’t know, maybe 50 pictures. Now, most album designs are about a hundred pages and there are three or four pictures per page. Tech News: Venus Optics Takes Anamorphic Lenses to the Nano Scale

Venus Optics has never feared making unique lenses, and now, notes NoFilmSchool, it’s tackling anamorphic glass. The newly announced Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph series includes the 27mm T2.8, a 35mm T2.4, and a 50mm T2.4 with a 1.5x constant squeeze ratio. The company says they’re the “world’s tiniest anamorphic lenses” and in mirrorless form, they are, though the Canon EF/PL mount versions are a little larger and heavier than others, adds DIY Photography. Honor Roll: James Florio Wins Architecture's Shulman Award

Colorado-based architectural photography James Florio is the recipient of this year’s Julius Schulman Excellence in Photography Award, named for the late Los Angeles-based photographer who famously shot the city’s midcentury Modernist Case Study Houses in the 1960s.
