In the 1970s, photographer George Butler and journalist Charles Gaines began hanging around with bodybuilders. At the time, the sport was considered an unsavory activity for homosexuals and freaks. Gaines and Butler, who died in October, 2021, saw something else—an under-appreciated sport and art that took its most magnificent form in the body of a young Austrian competitor named Arnold Schwarzenegger. Art News: Carrie Mae Weems Joins SFMOMA's Board of Trustees

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art recently announced that it has appointed five new members to its board of trustees, including Carrie Mae Weems, the contemporary artist who excavates family history through photography, video and other media. Weems has been involved with the museum for two decades, notes Art News. In March, SFMOMA announced a landmark bequest of nearly 350 artworks from the estate of late collectors Norah and Norman Stone, including an image from Weems’ landmark “Kitchen Table” series.   Read the full Story >>
