Before Photoshop there was Jerry Uelsmann, a master of surrealist photomontage. Uelsmann died Monday in Gainesville, Florida, where he was a professor emeritus at the University of Florida, according to an Associated Press report at Bloomberg. Uelsmann became influential in the 1960s by compositing images using multiple enlargers to produce photographic prints from negatives. Through May 15, the New Mexico Holocaust Museum is exhibition photographer Hannah Kozak’s series “SURVIVOR – My Father’s Ghosts,” in which she retraces her father’s footsteps through eight Nazi forced-labor camps in Germany from 1943 until liberation on May 8, 1945. We have previous featured Kozak’s project “He Threw the Last Punch Too Hard,” which recounts the story of violent abuse suffered by her mother.
