The global winners of the 2022 World Press Photo Contest have been announced. As we’ve noted, this year’s competition featured a regional model to increase entries from previously underrepresented areas. The Global Photo of the Year award goes to Canadian photographer Amber Bracken for her image of red dresses hung on crosses along a roadside to commemorate children who died at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia, an institution created to assimilate Indigenous children. Fujifilm has confirmed that film prices have increased from 20 to 60 percent, with more increases to come on paper, chemicals and lab products and services over the next two months, reports DIY Photography. The company says the price increase comes as a result of a recent rise in costs for raw materials, as well as transportation, and the decline in demand for photographic-related products. Meanwhile, PetaPixel reports that photo labs may soon see shortages of Kodak paper and chemicals. Sino Promise, the manufacturer of Kodak silver paper and photochemicals, may be struggling financially as it has increased its prices and is demanding full upfront payment from labs, adds PP.
