FotoEvidence’s W award focuses on women photographers who want to tell their personal stories. “Through their lenses women can shape the world differently and we want to give them this chance,” notes the organization, which has named three finalists for the 2022 prize. They are Cairo, Egypt-based Rehab Eldalil; Iran-based Zohreh Sabagnejad; and Los Angeles-based September Dawn Bottoms. The death of an 85-year-old man who reportedly succumbed to hypothermia after falling and spending nine hours sprawled and ignored on a bitterly cold street in central Paris has prompted grief, anger and incredulity in France, notes The Guardian. The man was René Robert, a Swiss photographer known for his images of some of Spain’s most famous flamenco stars. He died after slipping while on one of his nightly walks around the busy Paris neighborhood where he lived. “Unable to get up, he lay rooted to the spot in the cold for nine hours until a homeless person called the emergency services,” said his friend, journalist Michel Mompontet.
