St. Louis, Missouri-based photographer Tiffany Sutton is the winner of a $10,000 grant presented by the Black Women Photographers collective and Nikon for a proposed project in which she will travel to Iceland to photograph Black women. She told NPR she uses multiple exposures "to talk about the complexity of Black women in their minds, spirit and personality." Camera equipment from Nikon and $40,000 in grants were distributed among 12 photographers, including Sutton, to further their practice and projects. Read the full Story >>

Photographer Andre D. Wagner is one of three new fellows named by the Gordon Parks Foundation, an organization that works in service of the legacy of the late, great photographer Gordon Parks. The other new fellows are textile artist Bisa Butler and scholar and curator Nicole R. Fleetwood. Each will receive $25,000 to support “projects examining themes of representation and social justice,” notes Art News. Projects by Butler and Wagner will lead to exhibitions at the foundation’s gallery space in Pleasantville, New York. Read the full Story >>

More than a century ago, local businessmen and skiing enthusiasts took steps to organize the National Skiing Association in Ishpeming, Michigan. As a result, the region is credited as the birthplace of organized skiing in America. Ishpeming is also home to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, notes NPR, which features images of the area by Michigan photographer Nic Antaya. The Ishpeming Ski Club originated in 1887 as the Norden Ski Club and began its annual ski jumping tournament in 1888. Read the full Story >>

Nikon Japan has officially marked the D500 DSLR as “old product,” signaling that the company will cease manufacturing the camera. The last new D500 cameras around the world will be those already on store shelves, notes PetaPixel. The Nikon D500 is considered not only one of the best APS-C DSLRs Nikon ever produced, but among the best DSLRs ever made by any manufacturer, adds PP.
