Sony World Photography Awards Tuesday February 15, 2022
A black-and-white picture of a giant-tusked elephant, a self-portrait of a woman blowing a puff of smoke and a majestic white horse bowing to the camera are among the national winners of the Sony World Photography Awards 2022, notes CNN. This year’s contest drew 340,000 submissions from 61 countries. More than 170,000 photos were submitted to the Open competition, from which the National Awards winners were chosen. Canon, which has been at war with producers of counterfeit batteries for almost a decade, has announced that it just won a major battle in a targeted settlement with a major shipping and fulfillment company that supplied them to the market, notes PetaPixel. Julie Saul, a New York art dealer and curator championed avant-garde photography, died on Feb. 4 at age 67, reports Art News. Julie Saul Projects, the gallery she founded in 1986, confirmed the news. “For over three decades, Saul dedicated herself to the critical appreciation of photography and video, even as New York’s gallery scene prioritized figurative and abstract painting,” notes AN. Past exhibitions include a show of vintage portraits of the French writer Colette shot by great photojournalists of the 20th century, including Irving Penn, Lee Miller, and Henri Cartier-Bresson.
